Book Description

8vo. 6 volumes, set. Limited edition. #728 of 1500 sets. Bound in linen, each volume lithographed with a design in colour by Barnett Freedman. Designed by John Easton. The type is Eric Gill’s Perpetua and it is printed on cream rag Dickinson paper made for this edition. Illustrated with line drawings and auto-lithographs in colour drawn on the stone by Barnett Freedman. Very slight rubbing and a slight yellow mark to the spine of volume 4. Bookplate of E.H. Freedman on each half-title. A near fine set without the two slipcases.
Dealer Notes
Signed by the artist and with his thumb print in red ink, this is probably the most handsome edition of Tolstoy’s masterpiece in English. Freedman’s delightful illustrations enhance the text.
