Book Description

First thus. This beautiful style of colour illustrated binding (with a glued portrait to the front board) includes gilt stamped decorations and gilt titles to front and spine. Spine also has an image of a lighthouse. 80 illustrations by L. Benett, including 12 full page chromolithographic plates, a colour map, and two other maps in b/w. All edges gilt. Text in French. [iv], 423pp., 8pp. (publisher's catalogue for 1895). 280 x 190 mm (11 x 7½ inches). Condition: Spine has some fading, and the cloth is just beginning to split at the head and tail. The half-title has some weakness to the inside. Light sporadic foxing throughout. A complete and very good copy.
