Book Description
P G Wodehouse [1881-1975] comic novelist. Typed letter, signed, with original envelope dated Oct 26 1961 to Mrs [Esme] Wynne Tyson [1898-1972, actress, friend of Noel Coward and collaborator of the author J D Beresford] . Thank you so much for your letter and enclosures, which I have read with the greatest interest and am keeping by me to read again. I remember very well meeting J. D. Beresford. It was on the Brighton College cricket ground when Brighton were playing Dulwich. I liked him tremendously but I never saw him again. I often think how sad it is that one meets so many nice people once and only once. I never met Sheila Kaye Smith [1887-1956, author, who wrote rural novels based in Sussex and Kent], though I corresponded with her husband after her death. I loved All The Books Of My Life [a bibliomemoir by Kaye Smith] and regretted not having known her. I reviewed what must have been about her first novel - Isle of Thorns - in Punch [1913] and was very enthusiastic about it. She must have been a delightful woman...
