TWO POCKET WARTIME DIARIES 1941-1942 Kept by a A. S. Brookman Recording His time on the K-class Destroyer HMS Kimberley, which was one of only two to survive the war, though it was torpedoed by a U Boat in January 1942, which is one of the events recorded in the diaries 1942 HMS Kimberley deployed in support of the Tobruk garrison, as well as continued to provide escort and defence for convoys. On 12 January, whilst off Tobruk she was struck by a torpedo fired by U-77. Kimberley sustained major damage to her stern, and had to be taken in tow by HMS Heythrop and was towed to Alexandria. She spent February to December 1942, under repair, first at Alexandria, then at Bombay, this period is recorded in the diaries the diaries are pocket sized and measure 4 inches tall approx., the 1941 diary has notes in the memoranda section at the front, but the entries in this diary do not really start properly until mid-April, the rest of the year is fully used, the whole of the 1942 diary is fully used recording daily happenings A FASCINATING FIRST HAND ACCOUNT OF A CREW MEMBER ABOARD THE K-CLASS DESTROYER H.M.S KIMBERLEY DURING THE EARLY PART OF WORLD WAR TWO
