Book Description

The eighth edition of this young persons account of the life of Sheffield grinders about 1800. 12mo 6"x4" Steel engraved portrait frontispiece of the author aged 85. 112 pps.case-bound in modern cloth and blocked with the city's coat of arms. A contemporary copper engraving of cutlery grinders is mounted to the pastedown. A very good copy with no ownership marks. Roberts was also a prolific pamphleteer known as the "Paupers Advocate" writing on topics such as the slave trade, capital punishment, war, gypsies, child labour, in fact anything he thought tyrannical or unjust.
