Hardback. First edition. Historical fiction set in the 15th century and primarily in the village of Ewelme in Oxfordshire. The story features the village school, built by Alice Chaucer, granddaughter of Geoffrey Chaucer, who as Dame Alice is a character in the story. Illustrated by Gareth Floyd. This is the final historical novel by the award winning Cynthia Harnett. Illustrated map to endpapers. Red cloth with black titles to spine and an illustration of a grand house in black to the front is very clean. Previous owner’s name to endpaper. Colour illustrated matt dust jacket is a little dusty and has some tiny chips and tears to the edges. Text is clean. Binding is sound.
