The Works of Robert Louis Stevenson - Tusitala Edition.

Book Description
Foolscap 8vo. 35 volumes, set. Some reprints but most volumes are the first impression of this edition. Original dark navy leather, gilt. Top edges gilt. Silk marker ribbons. Only volume 8 is lacking its jacket. That volume is slightly faded and rubbed on the spine, with a little rubbing to the edges and neat ink ownerships on the front endpapers. All the other volumes have jackets which generally have chips, tears and loss varying from tiny to quite large. The contents are clean, with no other ownership marks and the leather bindings are incredibly fresh and well-preserved. A near fine set in good to very good d/ws.
Dealer Notes
‘The Tusitala edition is so called from the affectionate name given to Robert Louis Stevenson by the natives of Samoa -Tusitala, the Teller of Tales. It is produced under the general editorship of Mr. Lloyd Osbourne, who has written specially for this edition thirteen new introductions dealing with Stevenson at various periods of his life.’ Mrs. Stevenson’s biographical introductions were also included for the first time in a popular edition in the United Kingdom. The edition is common in the standard cloth but complete sets of the leather issue, especially in such fine condition, are very scarce.
