Book Description

Fifth printing, SIGNED BY AUTHOR. Large 8vo. Illustrated frontis, section dividers and headpieces. Quarter black cloth, lettered in gilt, burnt umber textured paper boards, upper board lettered in black. Spine rubbed, pushing to spine ends. Flat-signed by Sontag in black pen to half-title, lengthy PO gift inscription, comprising an Isak Dinesen quote, to flyleaf. Else, clean, bright and tight. In Cynthia Krupat’s original dust jacket, with Annie Leibovitz’s author photo of Sontag to back flap: price-clipped, edgewear, a little creasing to top edge. Very good/ very good. A pleasing copy of Sontag’s historical novel, centring on the disastrous affair between Lord Nelson and Emma Hamilton.
