Book Description

First edition, deluxe issue. 12mo. 5.6 X 4.25 inches. 86 pp. Blue moiré cloth with gilt stamped decoration and colour onlay to the upper cover. Pictorial endpapers. All edges gilt. Colour frontis and colour plates throughout by the author. A very good copy of this rare issue, the upper cover has some very faint water marks and some very slight loss of gilt, however this is a fine example of the rare deluxe issue.
Dealer Notes
In 1904 Warne asked Beatrix Potter to provide a design for a deluxe edition of her new book, and a small number were produced in a fine, silk moiré cloth, the page edges gilded and the design to the covers embossed in gilt. These deluxe copies sold at the higher price of 1/6-, rather than the usual 1/- for the standard paper covered copies.
