The Spectator in London: Essays by Addison and Steele

Book Description
Hardback. xi, 323pp. First edition thus. Illustrated by Ralph Cleaver. Very pretty illustrated cloth binding with gilt decorations. Gilt to all edges. Heavily illustrated in gilt to the front board with titles, borders, fans, ferns and flowers, cherubs, peacocks and an eighteenth century lady and gentleman. Spine also has gilt titles with other decorative elements repeated from the front. Gilt to spine is slightly dull and there is a very small area of colour loss to the illustrator’s name on the spine. Rubbed to spine ends. Hint of rubbing and bumping to corners. George Watson College for Boys, Edinburgh, prize label to endpaper dated 1902-03. Binding is sound. Very clean.
