Book Description
BELLS BRITISH POETS The Poets of Great Britain Complete in One Hundred and Twenty-four Volumes. Cadell & Davies...Samuel Bagster an others, 1807. 12mo. 124 volumes. Bound in full mottled calf, contrasting coloured calf spine titling pieces, contained in two contemporary wooden book form cases with hinged lids as a travelling library of the poets. Some of the volumes are a little worn on the spines, but all sound. The boxes in the form of a 4 volume set and covered in leather are worn and scratched and the title labels for ‘Volume 2’ are missing.
Dealer Notes
Originally published in 109 volumes in 1779 - 82, this expanded edition is rarely found. The binding design features a lyre or harp and although unsigned may be by an Irish bookbinder as the set came from an Irish country house library.
