Fourteen volumes, complete. Well illustrated throughout with charming copper-plate engravings. Blue leather binding in the regency style with gilt decorated page and board edges, gilt titles and gilt decoration to the spine, worn and marked.
A rare set of the plays of William Shakespeare in this size (normally the pages are cut down to a 12mo (6 or so inches) size, these are a larger at 9 inches tall). This edition uses the editions and comments of Manley Wood.

Externally
Spine – good condition – gilt titles and volume numbers, 4 raised bands (rubbed and faded) dividing 5 compartments, top and bottom compartments are decorated with a gilt design, some of the gilt has been rubbed off the raised bands.
Joints – good condition – sound, gently rubbed.
Corners – good condition –bumped and worn.
Boards – good condition – full blue leather boards with gilt decorated borders, Vol. I has some scratches to the rear board, Vol. III has some marks to the front board, all others showing signs of general wear, Vol. XIII has some damage to the bottom right hand corner of the front board which has affected the gilt pattern.
Page edges – good condition – all gilt.

Internally
Hinges – good condition – sound, Vols. II, IV, IX, X, XII, and XIV show signs of the front hinges starting but they are all intact.
Paste downs – good condition – brown paste downs with gilt decorated edges.
End papers – good condition – brown end papers, some of the internal end papers are tanned with some foxing, Vol. VII has a small hole in the end paper before the Title Page.
Title – good condition – Vol. I is tanned with some foxing caused by the imprint of the b/w frontispiece, all other title pages are lightly tanned with minor foxing.
Pages – good condition – there are b/w illustration throughout and in places these have caused some major foxing, all pages in all volumes are tanned and foxed, Vol. V pages 93-96 are uncut towards the top.
Binding – good condition – sound, very attractive set.
