The Open-Air Nature Book: The Hedge, The Pond, The Wood, The Meadow, The Stream, The Common

Book Description
Hardback. A very attractively bound collection of six, separately paginated, pieces of wildlife writing aimed at older children. 80 colour illustrations and 280 black and white illustrations. Bound in blue cloth with detailed gilt decorations and illustrations including fish in a stream, dragonflies, reeds, flowers, a bird with a nest of eggs, etc, surrounding a pretty colour illustrated paste-down of a red squirrel. The broad spine has gilt tiles with the subtitles surrounded by a decorative swag of foliage in gilt and the authors’ names in a further gilt swaged panel. Most of the books were published in 1909 except the first - The Hedge I know, which was published in 1912. Previous owner’s name to ffep dated 1914.
Gilt decorations are very bright and the front paste down is clean and neat to all its edges. Bumped to corners. Slightly rubbed to edges. Hint of tanning and occasional very faint spotting to some page margins. Colour plates are bright and crisp. Clean and sound.
