8vo. 6 volumes, set. Third edition. (First, large paper, edition 1923). Original blue leather, gilt. Top edges gilt. Silk marker ribbons. Black and white plates throughout each volume. Each volume is rubbed at extremities. Volumes 3, 4 & 5 have been pulled at the head of the spine with small loss. Small, neat ink ownership on the front paste down of each volume. Very good +. Chapman established the authoritative texts for the 20th century and was enormously influential in the revival of interest in Jane Austen’s work. The Third Edition was completed in 1954 with the addition of Volume 6 Minor Works. This set is usually found in cloth. The superior leather binding makes a handsome present even with the wear.
