In light brown paper covered boards with black cloth spine that has paper title label laid on. The Lone Swallows is HW’s second published book, coming between The Beautiful Years and Dandelion Days. The book is a collection of nature essays, most of which had already been published in newspapers and magazines. They are HW’s first attempts to ‘describe the common sights and sounds of the English countryside’, as he stated in his own ‘Compiler’s Note’ that fronts the first edition. Small impressed stamp to tp stating review copy. Pencilled notes of the reviewer laid in. Some light dust staining to boards with some minor marks. Cloth to spine fading in some places. Slight evidence of shelf wear to edges. Page edges rough cut with some foxing to edges. Internally this volume remains bright, clean and sound. Overall a good copy.
