Book Description

First edition of this illustrated edition. First printed in 1751. Original blue cloth, gilt. Illustrated by Edward Bawden. Jacket and 43 illustrations in the text. D/w chipped at head and tail of spine with tiny loss at corner tips and one short closed tear to the top edge of the lower panel. Fine in very good + dust-wrapper.
Dealer Notes
Bawden’s first major commission to illustrate a book. The tale is a cross between Robinson Crusoe and Gulliver’s Travels with a country of flying people. Admired by some English Romantics, it has rather fallen off the map.
