Dealer Notes
The Ladies' Diary (1704-1841) featured the usual astronomical and chronological almanack fare (including University term dates: not of huge significance to its stated readership!). Its subtitle indicated its more serious purpose, however: "Containing New Improvements in ARTS and SCIENCES, and many entertaining PARTICULARS: Designed for the Use and Diversion of the FAIR SEX." And, its second half comprised: riddles (known as Enigmas), Rebuses and Charades, (scientific) Queries, and Mathematical Questions, plus the full answers to the previous year’s quizzes. [ref: 2604]
