Book Description

8vo. First edition, first issue. Original buff cloth printed in black with designs by Henry Holiday. All edges gilt. Black endpapers. With nine illustrations by Henry Holiday. Spine tanned with slight fraying to the cloth along the rear joint. Boards also lightly tanned. Blindstamp for W.H. Smith (Strand) to top corner of front free endpaper. Title page slightly browned (as usual) by the tissue guard for the frontispiece illustration and with a small, oval ink ownership stamp to the top right hand corner, “Rev. David Paul, The Manse, Roxburgh”. Contents clean and bright and hinges sound and firm. A very presentable copy. Very good +.
