FIRST QUARTO EDITION OF THE HOLY LAND. 3 volumes (of six). 4to. (11.3 x 8 inches). Illustrated with 124 litho plates by Louis Gaghe, from drawings made by Roberts, each with a tissue paper guard. Full page map of Robert's route through the Holy Land, Petrea, & Syria at the end pf volume 3. Early half red morocco, bound by J. Gilbert of London. Spines with raised bands, each with decorative gilt roll. Compartments ruled in blind and lettered in gilt, Red morocco grained cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Occasional faint mark to a few margins but overall a clean and bright copy throughout. The bindings are a bit rubbed and worn to the edges but overall this is still an attractive and handsome set of this important work. Although issued with the 3 companion volumes of Robert's travels through Egypt and Nubia, these 3 volumes constitute the complete Holy Land volumes of the set.
