Book Description

Published by Nicholls and Son, London, 1840, 2nd edition. Two volume set in contemporary dark blue half leather binding with pale blue cloth boards. Five raised bands to spines, gilt lettering to spines. Tegs. 9ins x 6ins. Volume one: marbled endpapers, xxiv, 260pp, 88pp (appendices) plus large folding coloured map and 28 plates (2 coloured). Volume two: marbled endpapers, viii, 380pp, 27pp, (i), 8pp (index & errata) plus large folding coloured map and 13pp plates (4 coloured). Both maps are on linen. There is an old repair to the verso of the map in volume one. Both volumes have the bookplate of the Bishopgate Institute Reference Library to their front pastedowns - these have been overstamped "withdrawn". There is also a withdrawal stamp to the verso of each title page and a gilt reference no to the spine - otherwise no other library markings. Corners a little rubbed and worn, else a VG complete set.
