Book Description

Published by John Weale, London, 1846 & 1848, 1st editions. Both volumes half leather binding with marbled boards. Five raised bands to spine. Gilt lettering on red patch to compartment two. Gilt lettering on black patch to compartment four. Teg. Large paper copies. 15.25ins x 11.25ins, marbled endpapers. Volume one: x, lii, 383pp plus 21pp plates. Also other illustrations within the text. Volume two: [vi], 460pp plus 23pp plates and a large folding pedigree. All illustrations present. Bookplate of previous owner to first blank page after the endpapers. Occasional foxing, sometimes quite heavy. The portrait of Sir John Suckling and the plates for Flixton Hall and Grey Friars, Dunwich are quite heavily foxed. Also the groundplan of Leiston Abbey is water stained. Both spines are modern replacements and the corners have been professionally strengthened. Handsome bindings. Scarce in the large paper format. Very heavy set, extremely expensive to post overseas.
