Book Description

Published by G and W. Nicol, London, 1834, 1st edition. Two volumes bound as one. Full leather binding by Bedford. Five raised bands to spine. Gilt lettering to compartment two. Gilt decoration to other compartments. Triple ruled borders to front and rear covers. Elaborate gilt inner dentelles. AEG. 11.5ins x 9.25ins, marbled endpapers, xiii, (i), 772pp plus 8 plates (1 folding) and 10pp pedigrees (Fitzalan and Howard families). Also 14 vignette illustrations within the text. Frontis very browned. Some degree of foxing to all the plates, also offsetting to the text pages opposite the plates. The rest of the text is generally very clean. Armorial bookplate of Foley to the front pastedown. Presumably Fourth Baron Foley who in 1849 married Lady Mary Charlotte Howard - who is listed in the Howard pedigree. A handsomely bound volume. A little rubbed to the edge of the spine. Overall VG. Nb heavy book, weighs over 3kg, would be expensive to post overseas.
