Book Description

Fold out map frontispiece, xxxxvi pp + 284pp, 3 fold out maps, 3 fold out plates, illustrations, green boards, gilt titles. The contents are in very good condition, with just a little foxing noted throughout and a previous owner's signature to the front free endpaper, the fold out map opposite the title page has a little creasing and grubbiness. The boards are in very good condition, the spine is a seemly modern replacement, untitled as the original one would have been
Dealer Notes
James Wyld (1812 - 1887) was a prolific map-maker who inherited his father's business in Charing Cross in 1836 and who did well out of the railway mania of the late 1830s. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 1839, he was appointed Geographer to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and for a time was MP for Bodmin in Cornwall
