Book Description
No date circa 1844, the case 12.5cm x 17.5cm. Folding panorama in 32 sections laid on green cloth starting at the Western Stone Wharf through to Belfast, Cork, Leith and Glasgow Steam Wharf. Extending to nearly 14 foot. In the original ornamental paper covered case, the case showing some light dust soiling the printed spine in place some light rubbing to edges. The inner flap retains the original prospectus noting the panorama is given free to subscribers of The Pictorial Times, “or can be had for 5 shillings mounted in ornamental case”. The panorama in excellent condition with no splits or staining. A very good example of a rare London Panorama one copy located on Library Hub at Cambridge University. Engraved by Henry Vizetelly, This remarkable engraving, nearly fourteen feet in length, was produced for presentation ... to the subscribers to the Pictorial Times, family illustrated newspaper, as a print it is unequalled in the history of wood engraving, and is alike valuable as a work of art and as an historical record of the appearance of the great metropolis, seen from the Thames in 1844."
