Book Description

Landscape Folio. First edition. Original green cloth, gilt. Endpapers with a repeated design matching the dust-wrapper. Wood engravings, including twelve full page illustrations, a title page vignette (repeated in gilt on the upper board), initial letters and tailpieces, by the author. Spine and edges just a little faded and dust-soiled. A few tiny spots to the front board. Contents clean and fresh. Price-clipped d/w has a few very short closed tears, repaired with clear tape on the verso, and is a little rubbed and tanned. Near fine in near fine d/w.
Dealer Notes
The author’s first book, which she wrote, engraved and designed, and the most desirable. Each of the twelve chapters, one for each month of the year, is faced by a full page wood engraving. A classic of the engraver’s art and an unsentimental celebration of the English farming year. A lovely copy.
