Dealer Notes
Neate H120, B196 and N31. The three volumes chronicle the very early serious attempts on Everest and include the tragedy of Mallory and Irving. Mallory wrote pages 183 to 280 in the first volume and pages 273 to 295 in the second volume. The third volume includes Mallory’s letters to his wife on pages 207 to 239. The third volume by Norton is a special copy as it has the front panel from the dust wrapper tipped on the free endpaper and has a number of contemporary newspaper clipping laid in loosely. The most important extra item is a very nice two page letter written by Noel Odell to Canadian Brigadier General C.H. Mitchell in Toronto in 1927. Odell talks about the gift Mitchell sent him and has a lot to say about climbing in the North of Wales. Odell looks forward to Seeing Mitchell and his wife in the new year. Also attached to the letter is a Mount Everest Expedition stamp dated 1924 with an explanation of its history. Overall a great set and with the letter from the last man to see Mallory and Irving alive on the mountain.
