The discoverie of witchcraft. Being a reprint of the first edition published in 1584. Edited with explanatory notes, glossary, and an Introduction by Brinsley Nicholson.
xxxvii, , xxxviii, , 589 p. Illustrations, facsimiles. Publisher's cloth binding in a sleeved dustwrapper. The spine of the wrapper slightly faded, otherwise a very good copy. A reissue of the 1886 Elliot Stock printing. Scot was himself sceptical of claims of witchcraft and published descriptions of many forms of deception including legerdemain and conjuring tricks, some of which are illustrated in the book. His text was influential in the 17th century age of witch trials, resulting in further editions appearing in 1651, 1654, 1655, and 1665.
