Book Description

Title continues "... that they shall not deal with his sister, as they would with a harlot; for so they are now dealing with her. And he will prove to the world where the adultery is committed, by men who are uncircumcised in heart and life: and now he will expend all that he has in the world, if required, in the honest defence of her character–till he has slain the uncircumcised philistines, and entirely freed his sister from the reproaches of their adultery." First edition. Later brown cloth titled in gilt (bright) on spine (now a bit faded). Engraved pictorial bookplate of T. N. Brushfield, M.D., F. S. A. who was a pioneer of the non-restraint treatment of lunatics: he sought to lighten the patients' life in asylums by making the wards cheerful and by organising entertainments. (cf. Wikipedia)
Dealer Notes
A brother defends his sister, a self-proclaimed prophetess of the late 18th century who claimed to be the “woman clothed with the sun,” from the Book of Revelations.
Opposed and ridiculed by many, including the Church, she still gathered a large congregation, published several volumes of prophecy, and assembled “The Great Box” filled with writings to be unsealed posthumously at a time of national emergency in the presence of all the Bishops of the Church —the box has never been opened.
The last follower of her teachings, and those of the succeeding Panacea Society prophets, died in 2012.
