The First UK printing published by J.M.Dent, London in 1952. The BOOK is in Very Good condition. A little rubbed at the corners,spine ends and the spine folds. Light toning to the spine and cover edges. One small neat previous owner's name to the edge of the upper front end paper. Light toning to the text block and page edges. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good condition. It is the correct first issue bearing the price of 9s. 6d. net to the front upper flap. Some edge wear with creasing and loss to the spine ends and edges. Some closed tears at the upper spine area and flap folds. The wrapper comes together and presents very well in the removable Brodart archival cover. The Book has been Signed by the author to the half-title: 'With love to dear Ray, from Mary Norton , Oct. 1953'. There is also a tipped in woodcut Christmas card to the verso of the frontispiece. This card has also been signed by the author; 'with love from Mary Norton'. Housed within a custom slipcase. The first title in the acclaimed 'Borrowers' series which has become part of English Folklore, a tribute to the author's astonishing skill in creating her believable family of tiny people, the sombre chiaroscuro drawings by Diana Stanley perfectly matching the authors style. Housed in a custom slipcase. Very scarce with such attributes.
