See Wolff 3283 for the 1827 first edition. A novel partly set in India, by Horne “of the India House”. Presented to Sir Peter Laurie, perhaps because of his connections to India, having made his fortune as a saddler supplying the Indian army. Elected Lord Mayor of London in 1832, Laurie was a campaigner for social, political and prison reforms.
