inscribed to head of contents page 'Jane Richings from the Revd J H Newman /Oct 30 1842' later gift inscriptions to ffep. The Richings lived in St Clement's parish, Oxford, vide LD VIII (1841-1842). Saint John Henry Cardinal Newman (1801-1890) was a leader of the Oxford Movement in the Church of England and subsequently a leading theologian in the Roman Catholic Church. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 and canonised by Pope Francis in 2019
