Two Royal Command Performance theatre programmes."Her Majesty's Servants Will Perform, At Windsor Castle, On Thursday, December 12th, 1850, Shakespeare's Historical Play of King Henry The Fourth (Part 1.) [and] ... On Friday, January 7th, 1853 ... (Part Second). 18.5 x 21.5 cms. Decoratively pierced 'lace bordered' cream paper a trifle age-toned (especially at edges); blind-stamped royal arms at head nice and sharp; barely visible tape remains (at top and bottom) of previous (album?) mounting; slight edge damage and repair to 1850 programme. Overall, both fine survivals of the Victorian era. Charles Kean was the [listed] Director of both productions; he and his wife Ellen Tree, appears in the cast list in Part 1
Dealer Notes
Between 1848 and 1861 a series of private theatricals took place in front of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their young family at Windsor Castle. Shakespeare was a popular choice and the Master of the Revels was the leading actor-manager of the day, Charles Kean, who alongside other stars from the London stage, appeared in these productions (cf. bbc.co.uk)
