Spence 1140; Renard 1505; Rosove 313.A1 (“Uncommon”). Shackleton died during the “Quest” expedition while moored off South Georgia. It is a testimony to his leadership that the expedition nonetheless went on to carry out scientific work in the Weddell Sea, and on several Atlantic Islands (South Georgia, Elephant Island, St. Helena, Ascension and the Cape Verde Islands). The present work collects thirteen papers on the expedition geological collections.
