[Regency Sketchbook Of Views Of The Isle Of Wight].

Book Description
Oblong, 170 x 125mm. 11ff., later paper repair to inner hinges. Original crushed red morocco (corners worn; two small patches of worming along upper external hinge), boards alike with single gilt filet outer border).
A very high quality anonymous early nineteenth century sketchbook, produced probably as part of a holiday entertainment. Sketches includes two views of Binstead Cottage (Binstead Parsonage), Carisbrook Castle, St. Lawrence Church, Sir W.Gordon’s orchard, Bowchurch, Blackgang Chine, Shanklin Church, Carisbrook Castle from the Newport Road, Freshwater Bay & Carisbrooke Church. There are similarities with the work of the Isle of Wight fine engraver and illustrator, George Brannon, who published two views taken from similar angles of Carisbrook Castle and St. Lawrence Church in his 1831 Vectis Scenery.
