Book Description
Published by Cunard White Star, September 1938. Cream coloured card covers with decoration and lettering to front and rear boards, tied with an orange ribbon. 13ins x 10.75ins. Comprises title page, fold out illustration "Completing the bow structure" by Sir Muirhead Bone, the text of the message that the Queen delivered, 5pp article on the "Queen Elizabeth" by "Taffrail" (Captain Taprell Dorling), interspersed with photographs of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, Sir Percy Bates, Rt Hon Lord Aberconway & Mr S. J Pigott. Large folding colour photograph of "completing the plating over the double-bottom tanks", single page photo of "at work on the interior structure", photo of audience watching the liner take to the water, and one of the ship gliding down the slipway. Double page painting of the ship by Frank Mason, 7 more photographs showing the constuction, a triple fold photograph of of "Queen Elizabeth" lying on the stocks, 4 more photographs and a page of facts and statistics. Tipped in to the title page is a printed note saying that the King was unable to attend the launch as the Prime Minister had requested that he stay in London. VG nr F
