Dealer Notes
An attractively bound record of a trip to Palestine and the Holy land. The photographer complemented their own shots of the landscape and people with souvenir sets from a Czechoslovakian printer.

The first half of the album is dedicated to Jerusalem. It leads with two pages of souvenir photos capturing the Old and David Street, Churches and The Wailing Wall. Our photographer then captures beautiful panorama views overlooking the city alongside focus on specific buildings. This includes the YMCA building, the citadel and a mosque, highlighting the rich variation of roots of the country.

They then venture into Palestine, sensitively capturing local scenes in Jaffa, Jewish farmers ploughing and a bus trying to pass a road where the water has risen up to it’s headlights during the ‘Rainy season.’ Haifa dock is also captured - both during the day and night - alongside three photos of Bethlehem, including the ‘Xmas service’ procession. Tourist prints are then included to show Tiberias and Nazareth.

Whilst there are no date references, the use of Velox paper for the prints, alongside the style of vehicles, suggests that the photographer could have been one of the increasing number of English soldiers stationed in Palestine during the second world war.
