Book Description
Large, signed photograph of General Johan Laidoner [1884-1953] Estonian General, hero of the Estonian War of Independence against the Soviets, later part of the authoritarian Konstantin Pats government. He was arrested in 1940 after the Soviets invaded and died in prison in Vladimir Prison in 1953. The image with backing card measures approx 25cms x 34 cms. Actual image is 23 cms x 14.5 cms. The sepia phot is in VG condition. The backing paper with minor creasing. Laidoner has signed with a sentiment 'Avec la plus jaute consideration son ami General J Laidoner, Reval [the former name of Tallinn, the capital] 22 x 1928'
