Peter And Wendy : Illustrations By Edmund Blampied

Book Description
The First UK printing published by Hodder and Stoughton, London in 1939. The BOOK is in exceptional near Fine condition. Original cream cloth lettered in dark blue. Free from inscriptions. Light pushing at the spine tips. Very slight age related markings. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped and is in Very Good++ or better condition. Light age related markings and a little fading to the spine lettering. Mild edge-wear with a few small closed tears and a little creasing in places. The wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Illustrated with 12 mounted colour plates, 17 black & white illustrations and illustrated end-papers by Edmund Blampied. All 12 printed tissue guards for the colour plates are present. This edition, originally titled just 'Peter & Wendy', contains the original text. In May 1938, Blampied was elected to the 'Royal Society of British Artists'. Later that year he was asked to prepare some new illustrations for a lavish edition of 'Peter Pan', the rights to which had been bequeathed by J. M. Barrie to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. This request resulted in the publication of one of the finest illustrated editions of this book. Scarce in such exceptional condition.
