The album records the service of an unnamed British Nurse at the very end of the War in Europe. The hospital was first based in Belgium, Louvain and then Antwerp where VE Day was celebrated. The nurse was then transferred to Munster which served as the headquarters for the 6th Military District of the German Wehrmacht, during the War. Thanks to its military presence, Münster was a guaranteed Allied target. About 91% of the Old City and 63% of the entire city was destroyed by Allied air raids. This is graphically illustrated in a number of photographs, as is the destruction of bridges on the Rhine. The ephemera includes a typed poem (possibly by the album's owner), ' Non-Fraternisation ' pamphlets, examples of German money issued by the allies and orders of service for VE-Day celebrations. At the rear of the album is a section of photographs recording the work of the 'Bristol Army Blood Transfusion Centre.' An important and fascinating album recording the end of the European War and the part played by a British nurse. The boards are worn with loss to the top of the spine, internally fine.
