Pair of late nineteenth century Italian guide books by father and daughter in matching bindings

Book Description
ADDINGTON SYMONDS, John. New Italian Sketches. Leipzig: Bernhard Tauchnitz, 1884. Copyright edition. 8vo, pp. 326, [2]. Tauchnitz Collection of British Authors. This volume comprises JAS' Sketches and Studies in Italy and Italian Byways, previously published in the UK and US.
With: SYMONDS, Margaret; GORDON, Lina Duff; JONES, M. Helen (illustrator). The Story of Perugia. London: J. M. Dent & Co., 1898. FIRST EDITION. 8vo, xvi, 326 + engraved frontis, b/w illustrations and fold-out map to rear. The first title in Dent's popular Medieval Towns Series.
Both books finely bound in half vellum, spines elaborately ornamented in gilt, with gilt roll borders to sides, green patterned paper boards, all edges scarlet, (different) marbled endpapers. Red ribbon marker to NIS (holding by a thread). Both volumes: vellum a little grubby, gently rubbed, edgewear, droplet marks to top edges, POIs to front blanks – "B. Grieveson" – foxing to front and rear, occasionally to text blocks. NIS only: front joint tender; TSP only: tape to hinges of prelims (incl. frontis) and index, frontis shows marginal bleed from edge-stain, a near full-length closed tear to fold-out map (no loss), occasional grubby finger prints. Else, both vols. clean and bright: indeed, a unique pair with considerable charm. Good+
