Book Description

280 pages, 185 x 120mm. Blue cloth, the spine lettering badly rubbed and with a biro cross on the upper cover. Slight lean also. 1st Edition. PRESENTATION COPY TO EVELYN WAUGH. The inverted commas around 'Anthony Webb' intrigued me as it usually signifies a pseudonym. With help I found out that Anthony Webb was the pseudonym of Norman Scarlyn Wilson, who published a lot of books on the French language, including Teach Yourself French! He gave a talk on 'Selecting a Detective' on the BBC Home Service on 21st June 1951, where he is named as Anthony Webb, author of the Mr Pendlebury books. This can be checked on the Radio Times listings on the BBC Genome project
