Book Description

Plan of the Township of Brinsley particularly describing an Estate therein belonging to His Grace the Duke of Newcastle by Bailey and Brown, Solicitors 1800. Size approx. 70 by 55 cm. A detailed map on vellum of the Brinsley area showing the various closes, crofts, commons, homesteads and tenancies. The names of the neighbouring landowners are also shown. The plots of land are all numbered and coded. Red dots on the map indicate lands where coal was extracted during the last lease. The whole area seems to have been part of a coalfield. With an attractive vignette that contains the title to the bottom right corner of the map. Hand-coloured. Has been folded and at some point possibly been exposed to damp, though the parchment is now very dry. One fold has a small hole with minor loss. Includes one seal, though there are signs that there once was another. Overall Good condition.
