A Map of The Zoological Society’s Gardens in Regents Park commonly called The Zoo, first open’d to the Public in 1828 and later containing the most Comprehensive Assemblage of Animated Nature in the Whole Kingdom drawn by J P Sayer and published for the Zoological Society of London 1950. On paper size 40 by 27 cm. Folds into half and then half again. Contains one large map of the zoo in colour, 27 by 20 cm., a plan of the zoo and information on opening and feeding times etc. The, plus the title and publisher’s information. J P Sayer was a British artist whose work included railway posters and maps, with this map being one of a series he produced for the Strand Magazine in the late 1940s. His maps combine history with humour and reflect a romantic interest in the past and a feeling of optimism for post-war Britain.Two small rust or foxing spots to a fold to the reverse but the map is in VG condition.
