Book Description

Published by Robert Baugh in Llanymynech, Shropshire on August 1st 1808, this is a good example of Baugh’s famous Large Scale Map of Shropshire engraved on nine sheets, the engraved area to each sheet measuring 48cm by 48cm, with wide margins, bound in an old marbled paper covered binding with later leather spine and corners, binding measuring 56cm by 40cm approx., this highly detailed map was created in the middle of the industrial revolution, and features many of the Forges, Furnaces, Mines, Coal and Lime Pits, Canals, Inclined Planes, etc, some of which are only known from this map. The map also extends beyond the Shropshire border, especially to the east where it extends to cover Wolverhampton, Walsall & Cannock etc. The covers are rubbed with some staining, internally some offsetting to the maps with some mild browning, some staining to lower corner of last map, and noticeable staining to blank endpapers, old ownership name in pencil to front pastedown else in good general condition,
