Frank Dorn's annotated map of 1936 with English captions and labels, depicting the principal sites and occupations of the inhabitants of the city, within a pictographic border showing Chinese history, the whole enlivened with amusing vignettes of the everyday life and sights of the city. "A map & history of Peiping; lithographed formerly known as Peking; capital of provinces, princedoms, and kingdoms since 1121 B, C.; in 1264 A. D. the capital of the Mongol Empire of Kublai Khan; made the capital of the Ming Empire and built as it is today by Yung Lo in 1421; continued as the capital of the Chinese Empire through the Ming & Ching Dynasties; and now a city which will live long in the memory of man as one of the greatest the world has ever known." Single sheet folded map lithograph printed in colour on both sides & presented in a decorated & strong paper envelope printed in red & black. The descriptions on the map itself are in English and Chinese but the rest of the information on the front and reverse is all in Chinese.
