Jacob was an important British administrator in Yemen who served as First Assistant to the Resident of Aden, Political Agent of the Aden Hinterland, and, during WWI, as Chief Political Advisor on S.W. Arabia in Egypt. The book is focused on the modern administration of the country and Jacob recounts many of his personal experiences.
