Book Description
1st Edition, 1st Printing. Publisher’s original green cloth with gilt stamped titles to the spine. Green stained top edge and black endpapers, viii, 311 (1) Treasure Island ad, (16) publisher’s ads, together with fold out map of the cruise of the brig Covenant, and the probable course of David Balfour's Wanderings. This is a 1st printing with "business" rather than "pleasure" on p.40 line 11; "nine o'clock" on p. 64 line 1; and "Long Islands" on p.101, lines 9-10. Page 312 consists of an advertisement for Treasure Island and the publisher's advertisements are dated '5.G.4.86' and '5.B.4.86' as called for. There is a perceivable 2cm toned band across the top of the front board together with a few small minor marks to the boards, and a touch of shelf wear to the bottom and fore edges. The spine is toned and lightly rubbed along the edges. The spine tips are rubbed with tiny chips at the head and two splits at the bottom. Internally, there is no name, bookplate or inscription. The black endpapers are in very good condition and are not cracked at the hinges. There is a little spotting to the prelims, otherwise the pages are generally very clean. The fold out map has no double folds or tears. A very good copy, now protected in a rigid plastic removable cover (not shown in the images).
