Journey To A war

Book Description
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber, London in 1939. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Light spotting and toning to the text-block. Free from inscriptions. Mild pushing at the lower spine end. Some offsetting to the blank end-papers with some spotting to the prelims. Small 'Blackwells' bookshop sticker to the lower front pastedown. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. A hint of creasing at the extreme spine tips. Mild toning to the spine and edges. The wrapper artwork of a cartoon by Yet Chian-yu (repeated as the frontis) looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The 63 photographs by W.H. Auden and the folding map (at the rear) are all present. W.H. Auden contributes a long poem and a series of sonnets. Christopher Isherwood's contribution is an account of their day-to-day experiences in China, based on a diary kept alternately by the two authors. The authors' account of their travels in China just before the start of WW2. Collectible.
