Book Description

First Edition. Hepworth Dixon's first book, 'from original and authentic documents'. A prolific author of titles on history and travel, he showed much interest in social questions, and followed his study of Howard with an account of the London prisons. From the library of Horace Noble Pym, lawyer and eminent book collector, with his familiar armorial bookplate; affixed to the front free endpaper is John Howard's autograph, dared 1764. Horace liked to add such association material to his books.
