8vo. First edition. Original navy hardcovers, gilt. Map endpapers and frontispiece. Black and white photographic plate sections. Near fine in near fine d/w.
Dealer Notes
This copy belonged to Heulyn Dunlop who married John Rayner (1908-90), journalist and author of the pre-war Shell Guide to Hampshire. Rayner was previously married to Joan Eyres Monsell but she left him for Patrick Leigh Fermor. Bruce Chatwin’s ashes were scattered near Kardamyli, the Leigh Fermors’ home in Greece. This was his first book, winner of the Hawthornden Prize, and a significant landmark in travel writing. A nice association copy.
